Leopards have been seen quite often, but our lion pride seems to have split up at the moment so it is difficult knowing where to look for them.

No drive tonight - but I had a doctor's appointment in Komatipoort and would have been too late back anyway.

Last night after going to bed I heard a few hyena whoops followed by some lion roars, but it did not last long. Maybe the smell of the leopard kill attracted other predators.

Quick trip to Skukuza today to run a few errands - see the knobthorn trees are coming into bloom and being targetted by the giraffes!

Tonight did a bush braai security - American folk, who really enjoyed the experience and asked lots of questions.

Tomorrow will do night drive for BnD - as Raymond asked me today I presume it is already booked.

If the knobthorns are already blooming it suggests a lovely early spring there for you, EJ. :gflower:

:hmz: don't know about early spring..... time will tell.

One group cancelled the drive for tonight, so just as I was going with Patrick to sort out vehicles a call came from Raymond to say I had no drive after all! Such a pity as I know there were some folk wanting to go......but it did make things awkward sorting out vehicles as there is a bush braai tonight too, and not enough 10-seaters to go round.

Patrick asked me to help with sunset drive at the gate today as we have 2 vehicles going out.

Very sad trip through to Komatipoort early this morning (GP appointment) as I passed the scene of the train/truck accident outside Hectorspruit.......

Fairly quiet night, but still good variety of sightings.... ellies, impalas, scrub hares, steenbokkies (twice), duikers, rhino, white-tailed mongoose, genet, bushbabies, spotted eagle owl, waterbuck, and a sleeping leopard (courtesy of guide from Jock Safari Lodge who even turned round to show me where it was!).

Today was a little confuising....sunset drive, no bush braai, no sunset drive......but all sorted out in good time. I had 6 quite noisy guests, and felt sorry for the other 4, but there was no reason to tell the noisy ones to be quiet as they were only chatting loudly as we were driving...... Made it difficult for me to talk though.

Early on we found a hippo quite far from the river already - unusual in the daylight. Then while at another sighting someone from camp told me about 4 lions that had a buffalo kill near the S114/S119 junction and of course the guiests immediately pricked up their ears and wanted to go there. It was almost on the route I had planned fortunately! We found one 'flat line' which did not move a muscle apart from breathe while we watched, and while Raymond arrived and turned his big vehicle right next to it, and then when Patrick also arrived. No sign of the others or the kill.

Also had ellies (including Thandamamba again), giant eagle owl, spotted eagle owl, insomniac warthog, impalas, scrub hares, civet, bushbabies, and more hippos. plus hyenas twice, and 2 lionesses on the road (I called Patrick to let him know, but he was too late and they walked into the bush before he got to me).

It was windy when we started, and I thought it would get very cold......but I had not even put on my sweater by the end of the drive!

Tomorrow I will probably take the 10-seater back to Skukuza after getting back from church - we have had a substitute while they did something to ours.

Yes, sounds a bit of a different drive. Now I know what a 'flat line' (flat lion?) is. I've been on noisy drives before and it can quite disconcerting if it continues for most of the time.

i agree, and it is the reason we do not go o evening drives (or any other come to that) because it would totally destroy the drive for us.

it's great to have your regular reports back EJ - my daily fix - thanks for taking the time to do so.

Now off to Skukuza via BnD to swap a 10-seater.....pity it cannot be a nice leisurely drive, I have to be back in time to do sunset drive - maybe....
