Quiet drive tonight - impalas, scrub hares, duikers, lots of hippos, white-faced owl, spotted eagle owl, several nightjars, large spotted genet - and a few 'unidentifieds'.

Had a drive to Nelspruit today - found out that Makro had a camping freezer I have been trying to get hold of, and decided I had better go and buy it while they had stocks! Traffic was not too bad, but the rain was heavy all the way home - apart from the last few kms anyway, and then started again as I got home.

Some crazy folk here in camp - 2145 last night they were driving from one corner of the camp site to the kitchen to do their dishes - and tonight I found them driving to the ablution block!!!! This camp is probably one of the smallest in Kruger.......

As there was some noise about last night (and from the staff area too) I decided to do a quick permit check this evening, and then remind folk about reading the permits and obeying the rules while I was about it!

Relieved to find no calls came to ask me to do a drive - I am really tired at the moment. Once we have sorted out all the dates for course/assessments/etc next year I am going to book a few days away somewhere - maybe camping at Letaba or Shingwedzi - somewhere I can just sit and enjoy watching birds and small things, not necessarily drive much at all.

MM arrived mid-afternoon. By then I knew I was doing a night drive at BnD and she was going to come with me! We sat and shared some ginger beer together, watching a woody - and then it suddenly flew right across the area between the bungalows and attacked a squirrel! Lots of squeaking and then the woody calling from a branch.....

The trip was fairly quiet - impalas and scrub hares, giraffes, hippos, maribou storks, nightjar, spotted eagle owl, hyenas, white-tailed mongoose, boomslang, and a chameleon which wanted to come with us (it was close to the vehicle, but hidden by a small branch, so I tried to move the branch to give the guests a good view - and ended up with the chameleon climbing on to me and then refusing to go back on the tree again!).

Last night it was a sunset drive for BnD and again MM was with me for the trip.

We had a good time with a large journey of male giraffes all round the vehicle at one point, and of course the usual impalas and scrub hares. Also had elephants, a couple of genets, zebras, and some good bird sightings including a green pigeon posing nicely in a tree next to us.

This morning one lot of guests drove their vehicle to the gate at 4am!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another joined them 15mins later. Fortunately the camp gate opens earlier than the outside gate at the moment, otherwise they would have been in trouble when I needed to leave for gate duty!

Forgot about 2 lots of dwarf mongooses and warties last night!

The gate was quiet this morning - a few cars stacked on the bridge, but then cleared quickly. So I was home shortly after 6.30am!!!! Had a chat with MM, and Hapoor and SO popped by to say hi too (they were on the drive last night too!). MM has gone now - off to Pretoriuskop.

I was asked to do a sunset drive last night, but shortly before time the rain came down in torrents! The trip was cancelled.....

Last night then became an exercise in quietening down the camp.....but by 2230 I was able to go to bed. Now for gate duty this morning....
