Glad to hear the feet are ok. How many nights will the bush camp be for?

Ooops sounds like bones have been thrown over the fence to entice the Hyena closer. :naughty:

Because I have a car until Wednesday I decided to take a short drive yesterday morning.....just around the Matjulu loop. Lots of impalas, warthogs, lots of giraffe at the waterhole including 2 males having a strength match, also had 2 breeding herd of ellies (one very big, the other more of a family group), and a lone ellie bull, buffs in the distance......not a huge amount, but just good to be out there enjoying it.

Today managed to get to church, and though I had not intended to, I also went to do some grocery shopping and was fortunate enough to find PandP had marked down some cold stuff......! So a couple of meals in my freezer now, and some soup mix about to be cooked up.

Jen, give me a list of what you need/want. I'll bring it to you as soon as I can, or arrange that Andre gets it to you.

What a nice gesture Porridge!

I'm sure EJ will appreciate any help she can get during her "car-less" period! Wish we could help her out as well.

I am going to do bush camp on Sunday and have the bush camp vehicle here with me until then as it is not needed for a few days. So nice to be able to get about even if only within the park.

Rain today......quite heavy at times too.

And......my caravan roof leaks! I had a tarp over, but it had slipped a little and was not fully over on one edge and water must have got in there. Fortunately I have an extra tarp and have managed to get it over.....much pushing and heaving and struggling, but done. Unfortunately could not get on top to try to dry off what was there. Hope not too much has seeped in, and not too much damage either. :wall: :wall:

Sorry  been neglecting the thread rather......

Looks as if the spare tarp has done the trick for now, and the caravan roof is OK. Still don't know if any damage was done inside the lining of course.....

On Sunday 21st I was back to Skukuza and bush camp. As we arrived at the camp with the guests a lioness crossed the road in front of us and walked off round the camp fence towards the river......a good start! We then heard lions and leopard every night, plus hippos of course, and also buffalo and ellies. Lots of bushbuck around too.....

The first evening we had a sundowner drive to Jones Dam as there was not time for a walk. The hippo was not there for some reason.....and it was a relatively quiet drive. Impalas, warthogs, giraffes, waterbuck, hippos, zebras, wildebeest.....and we saw those every time we went out too! Several times kudus and ellies too.

First morning we walked from one of the dams, and had a good walk with most of the above animals seen, and rhino we walked close to. That afternoon a shorter walk from Leeupan, finding buffalo bulls as we returned to the vehicle for the sundowners.

Next morning a longer walk again, which was very quiet, but so good to be out in the bush - we were close behind buffalo most of the way and even heard them, but did not see them. The afternoon walk was from Jones dam towards the windmill further down the road....but we walked through the bush of course. As we arrived a lioness crossed on the opposite bank, and a large herd of ellies were enjoying the water and mud in the northern corner. There was nearly an interaction between the lioness and an ellie bull who stayed after the main herd left, but she moved away in time and he did not see her. We then followed in her direction for the walk, but did not see her again. The ellies stayed away too. We did see dwarf mongoose, banded mongoose, and slender mongoose all on the same walk!

The final walk was from the high water bridge along the maintenance track for a while and then along the river edge back to camp. We had the excitement of hearing ellies squealing and upset on the bank while we were on the river edge.....but fortunately they were a bit ahead of us, and crossed down into the river in front of us in 3 separate large herds, moving quickly and making a lot of noise. We had seen a male lion sleeping near camp as we left, so maybe they had met up with lions.

So a good camp! And I am back there again this Sunday! Got a call today to ask me to do the back-up rifle again. It will be my 6th camp this year.....an ambition well and truly achieved! There will be at least one more in September plus helping with one of the courses run from the camp. I am spoilt!!!!

And the best news is that I got my car back on Monday too.....so at last I am mobile. It is such a relief......

So glad your car is back. It must be such a relief to be independent again.
