Hi all forum members,
As promised herewith my trip report. I had the privelage to take my family from Holland (have not seen them for 15 years) and folks to Kruger for a great 4 night stay.
Thank you to all for the great info last week on Pretoriuskop and sightings and roads within the area.
We departed from Pretoria at 04h00 and headed to Kruger full of excitement and looking forward to a great stay. We arrived at Phabeni gate at 09h15 and had a great coffee stop at the Albesisni ruines where we were welcomed by 5 giraffe grazing close by.
After taking in Kruger we left for Pretoriuskop with great sightings of Kudu, Giraffe and the beloved Impala.
After unpacking we had a great relaxing afternoon before going on our first afternoon drive for the trip. Great sightings of White Rhino and Lichtenstein Hartebeest and Rheedbuck.
Today we departed early for our drive to Afsaal!!! The area around Pretoriuskop badly burned but allowed for great sightings in the area which included Serval, Honeybadger, White Rhino, Lichtensteins Hartebeest, Elephant, Giraffe, Warthog, Zebra, great sightings of Bateleur, Fish Eagle and many more. Afsaal provided for a busy breakfast stop but a well earned stop to enjoy the surroundings and sounds. The little scops owl at Afsaal still there and still as beautifull as always.
After breakfast we headed for the Biyamiti Weir, my favourite spot in this area. On route we encountered countless Ellies, Giraffe, a magnificent sighting of 4 (3 female and 1 male) lions next to the road and the most loved white rhino taking its afternoon bath.
At Biyamiti we ecountered 5 big male Ellies enjoying the coolness of the water and were then entertained by a healthy heard of 45 Ellies. The road to Pretoriuskop provided Ellies, Giraffe, baboons, Zebras, Giraffe, Kudu and many more.
We ended the night with a great braai.
Today took the road to Skukuza for our next 2 nights. Sightings included Ellies, Lichtenstein Hartebeest, White Rhino, Heyena, Hippo, Buffalo, Lapid faced vultures and many more. Afternoon drive took us along the Sabi river with Ellies all over and Buffalo enjoying the water.
Brought 3 sightings of Lion in the Sabi river and close to sunset dam near Lower Sabi, plenty of Ellies, Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra, Kudu, Bushbuck, Nyala and sightings of great European Bee-eater. Sunset dam gave us great sightings of Hippo, crocodile, baboons and a Saddlebilled stork.
Lower Sabi camp provided a cool and relaxing view over the bush and water.
Today brought the last day and road back tp Pretoria. We drove to Phabeni with sightings of Ellies, Giraffe, Buffalo, Hyena, Marshall Eagle, Warthog, Kudu and many more. A truly blessed trip and memories to keep us going till th enext one.
