At last the ADSL at home is up and running so I can get back to posting on the Forum.

This will be a catch-up report with mostly photos till we get up to date and then I will do detail reports again.

17 March 07

On the morning of the 17th we decided to have breakfast in the Park and only got to the gate at about 8:00. 8) Our route took us from Malelane to Afsaal, Byamiti Loop, back to Malelane and home in time for lunch.

We had a birthday party on the 21 and only left for the park at 14:00, we stayed in B&D for one night and went straight to camp to book in. It was very hot so we stayed in camp till it cooled down for a late afternoon drive.

Ellies next to the fence in front of our bungalow. 8)

Pearl-spotted owl on the S110 and some more Ellies.

Thank you all for the nice comments.

Next trip we had family from Hermanus that forced me to take them to the Park for three days, first night Tamboti.

30 March 2007

We went in at Malelane and saw a lot of general game up to Skukuza.

Image

Image

Our major sighting of the trip Crested guineafowl just before Skukuza (at least for me)

Image

From Skukuza to Satara we saw a Leopard at the Sand river low water bridge. Disappeared in the reeds before any photos could be taken.

Fish Eagle and Saddlebilled Stork at Kumana waterhole.

Image

Image 8)

From Satara to Tamboti we found this Marabou chasing up insects with this Carmine Bee-eater grabbing anything he misses. :)

Image

Kori Bustard

Image

Lots of general game drinking water at Nsemani Dam, about 2 km past the dam we found three AWD hunting.

Image

Image

Up the S12 we found three Lion, one Male and two females. 8)

Image

Image

Headed back on the tar and saw these to Jackal just past the S36.

Image

On the Rabelias Loop at the pan these fourteen Lion had pulled down a Buffalo, one more over eaten than the other. :D

End day one

Up early the next morning to see if the Lions where still at the kill. Found them all still there and still eating. Some to lazy to move and sleeping on the carcass.

Image

Image

Image

Our next night was at Olifants and I decided to take the S39 (Timbavati Road).
Saw more Kori Bustards. 8)

Image

And one of my Favourite trees in Kruger at Timbavati Picnic Spot. :P

Image

From the Olifants River bridge, a big heard of Ellies.

Image

Pied Kingfisher with its prize.

Image

And the view from our Bungalow.

Image

End day two

1 April 2007

Up early again to exit at Phabeni Gate. Found three hyaenas not to far from camp.

Image

At Ngotso Dam seven Lion, one magnificent Male and six females. Still cool enough for some of them to play. :)

Image

Image

Image

This Gymnogene and five different sightings of Ground Hornbill.

(Pity it was overcast for this one)
Image

Image

Camped at Lake Panic for a while.

Image

Image

And our last sighting, three Cheetahs close to Nyamundwa Dam hunting.

Image

Another tough trip but someone had to do it.

Thank you all again for the great response.

At this rate I will never catch-up, so I will give general comments of the trips and some photo’s.
About 20 more trips to come.

Next trip was from 7 – 9 April 2007

We had booked two nights at Mopani and what a disappointment in game viewing. The Mopani bush was so thick you could hardly see 20 m each way of the roads. It was the same weekend of the Hippo and rhino episode. We did see the big five on the last day from Satara to Phabeni.
This Ellie must surly be one of the up and coming Tuskers but stuck to the bush and this is the best shot I could get, found him close to Twisappel between Letaba and H15.

Image

Goldentailed Woodpecker in camp.

Image

Yellowbilled Stork

Image

Imm. Martial Eagle

Image 8)

Southern Reedbuck

Image

Another Imm. Martial Eagle

Image

Cheetah close to Phabeni.

Image

The End.

Thank you for your comments and it’s a pleasure. :P

27 April 2007

Went for a sleep over at B&D, out early next morning to get to work. 8)
Needed the batteries charged.
Found this Male Lion outside the gate.

Image

These two African Hawk Eagles making sure their species won’t go extinct.

Image

Sunrise in Magic Land.

Image

Till next trip.

Thank you to Gwen, elpaco and MM.

12 April 2007

Had a look on the web for accommodation and found a very considerate person cancelled a chalet at Byamiti so I grabbed it. Went in at Malelane up to H2-2, S23, Mpondo Dam, S26 and finally Byamiti.

Greyheron at weir

Image

Black Rhino 3 km from Mpondo turn-off.

Image

Hippo in Dam

Image

Arrived in camp and found a heard of Ellies drinking.

Image

This Baby Ellie imitating mom. 8)

Image

A heard of about 50 Buffalo walked past the Ellies and this little one charged them.

Image

Next morning up early and we took the H4-2 past LS to Skukuza and Lake Panic.
At Lake Panic this Pied Kingfisher was trying its luck to no avail.

Image

Image

On the road to Phabeni gate we saw this Gabar Goshawk and a LOG but to far for nice photos.

Image

Unfortunately we had to get back home early and left Phabeni at about 2:30.

Hi all, thank you once again for all the positive comments, it just makes me want to go more often to my second home to make photos. :P

@Pardus, she is more than welcome. 8)

@a-m & CC
This Rhino was about 300m from us and only saw the marks on it when I had a look at the images on computer. It seems to be more of a skin disease than injuries caused by fighting. You can also see it on this photo taken off his other side.

Image

16 May 2007

I had to go to Hazyview for work and decided to take a small detour back to Nelspruit seeing that I was already there. Went in at Phabeni gate and out at Numbi. Saw a Male and female lion just before the turnoff on the S3 and these two close to Mestel Dam.

Image

Lots of general game but no Sable. Not to shabby for a one hour drive.

21 May 2007

Next they forced me to attend a meeting at Berg & Dal, unfortunately the meeting took about all day so it limited my driving around.
First this Impala at it own carwash.

Image

And then an African Harrier Hawk (Gymnogene) looking for something to nibble on. 8)

Image

Image

And this little one might be a bit big to still be suckling.

Image

Also saw lots of general game before returning home.

Thank you guys
@MM, only twelve more to go and I will be up to date.

@anne-marie, 8)

2 June 2007

Next episode a day trip on a very rainy day so birding was really not good but the rest of the animals was just plain grumpy. (Don’t like the cold weather either)
First Impala all wet.

Image

Just before Afsaal these Warthog checking each other out.

Image

One standard roadblock along the main road.

Image

Hippo at Lake Panic should be use to water, but they also had a thing or two to sort out. :P

Image

Image

Image

These Giraffe weren’t happy with each other either. 8)

Image

And last but not least, these two young Kudu bulls where also measuring each other up.

Image

Image

Image

At least Brompou and I had no problem with each other.
