Pishing for Duke - Kruger August 2007

Unread postby Johan van Rensburg » Tue Aug 14, 2007 3:48 am

Worked late last night and can't sleep more after a few hours kip. The moment has arrived. I've started packing. We'll be leaving for Croc Bridge in a few minutes.

The opportunity to visit Kruger again has arisen due to a corporate event being staged at Kruger Gate. I have put in a few extra days leave and will attempt to find Kruger's greatest tusker, Duke as a side benefit to birding his home turf

gwendolen has looked into her crystal ball and has given me the coordinates where Duke will be found 8)

Trip report will benefit from a few sms messages to plot the ellie pishing progress...

Back from the greatest Kruger trip ever! I have SOO-O-O much to share, this trip report is going to take forever!

Thanks to Jay for posting the SMSs to tease you guys and gals! (BTW, I didn't mean to  )

We got a bit busy after Thursday with the corporate gig and further SMSs just became impossible. Suffice to say that the Saturday trip with agraham and his SO was the most unbelievable excursion we have had in any game reserve, ever! If it wasn't for photographic evidence, this complete trip report, from the first to the last day will by classified as fiction!

The birding was great as well, but this was the only aspect of the trip that turned out "ordinary" - producing merely 3 lifers!

You guys owe my BIG TIME for this...

Just after entering at Malalane, within a stone's throw from the reception office... LIT!

Image

This leopard wasn't as accommodating as our Kgalagadi LIT that posed perfectly for 300 pix!, but it was still a great start to our Kruger adventure...

The second of the Big5 - barely 4 kilometres further at the bridge over the Matjulu.

Image

Ag, and just because this actually IS a birding trip...

Image

A very confident sandgrouse (double-banded female) and I had a lekker heart-to-heart

Image

Some Jameson's firefinches sat for this composition...

Hope this whetted the appetite sufficiently. I am now dead beat...

G'nite.
