Finally the bags are packed (incl. YR).The cameras checked and now we are sitting here with a nice cup of coffee
and can hardly wait to start this trip .

After leaving for South Africa this evening it will be just
two more days and we are back to Kruger

So see you all again in two weeks from now.

Katy

Sms from Katy:

Quote:
Just had a lovely dinner at the restaurant. We saw lots of Rhino today. Unbelievably 15  some close to the road, some further away. Klipspringer, Steenbok, Duiker, Ellies and even Lions at a kill close to Afsaal. But we just caught a wee glimpse because of the huge traffic jam. :|

Spent some time on our verandah. Heard Jackals, Hyeana and a Nightjar. HEAVEN!!!!

Now we are tired and looking forward to tomorrow.

Katy

A sms just received from Katy:

Quote:
Last evening in Berg-en-Dal. Visited the Lions with their kill again today. A little less busy but still not a great view. Saw lots of Zebras, Giraffes, Wildebeest and Ellies. No Rhinos today. Lovely drive to Biyamiti Weir. And many, many very excited male impalas ;) Amazing what effect hormones can have  :D

Thanks Katy for alerting us to the Hyenas at the cam!

Are there Hyenas at the waterhole at Satara at the moment?

And then a few minutes later:
Sms from Katy wrote:
Had a good day today. We have been to Lake Panic and the nursery.

Seen our first Black Collarred Barbet today. Just had 3 Hyenas at the fence.

Again we got our favourite hut g 168.

Lion sighting again, but very lazy Lions. Just saw the tip of the tail and the ears. But had a good laugh with the other wildlife lovers.

I saw a shooting star a moment ago, but will not tell you my wish ;)

We are back at Satara, so we are back home with all the sounds we can hear from our veranda.

Katy.

Thanks DB, wonderful to be able to hear direct from the park, great to see the hyenas. Maybe modern technology isn't so bad after all (says she from cyberspace  )

This evening's report from Katy:

Quote:
Just sitting outside our Bungalow and waiting for the hyenas. Two already passed the fence so might be seen on the cam already.

This afternoon while we have been back at camp an ellie passed the fence around 2pm and hopefully has been seen at the cam as well.

We had once again a lovely day. S100 in the morning. Brunch at N'Wanetsi picnic spot. Stop at Sweni Bird Hide. Lovely as usual. Kingfisher on the way to the picnic spot.

Cloudy in the morning and some rain around noon, but again completely fine in the afternoon.

Saw Pearl Spotted Owlet on yhe way back to camp and this afternoon's ellie cause a traffic jam just before gate closing time.

Please send our greetings to Freda and SO as well.

As always, we have a fantastic time in here in Kruger.

Katy

Katy's sms received a little earlier today:

Quote:
Arrived in Talamati yesterday. What a wonderful camp :D loved it right away. Beautiful landscape.

Saw a Puffadder, Purple Roller and Double Banded Sandgrouse.

Sorry no cellphone reception :|

This morning we saw a Leopard feasting on an Impala. Awesome sighting. Spent nearly an hour there.

The landscape around Orpen is much drier than around Satara or further south. But the grass is still quite high.

Katy's report received this afternoon:
Quote:
Another great day in Kruger. Today we passed the place of our Leopard sighting again. We were surprised to find still a few cars there and thought that the Leopard was still around. But today there were two Lions there, in the exact same spot as the Leopard yesterday. One male and one female. They probably took the impala off the Leopard and chased him away. The male was limping. We could see that as he walked :( soon after they lay down the female started to purr. And they began to mate. Therefore I think (hope) that the leg of the male was not too badly hurt. It was an interesting experience. We never saw mating lions before.

Tomorrow we will be moving to Tamboti. But we like Talamati very much.

Katy

Wow - they are having a super duper time indeed!

Yes the lion sighting was very special.

Yesterday we have been back at camp not too early in the afternoon, so we decided to stay in camp and rather go to the bird hide. There were about 50 Ellies at the waterhole. 4 different herds. Amazing.

Now we are on our way to Tamboti. We are in #40 again. Today it is Francolin's Birthday. Can you imagine a better place to celebrate!?

Katy

Happy Birthday Francolin!!!!

This morning we had a belated birthday present: 5 cheetah, just outside Orpen! Far away, but we could see them clearly.

Not too many sightings yesterday.

Thanx for the birthday wishes.

One owlet on the way back to Tamboti. Another back at camp. There must have been an Ellie at the fence during the night but we did not see him. This morning Buffalos in the river bed and all through the night we could hear Lions, Hyenas and Jackals calling. Right now we had a lovely cheetah sighting near Orpen. Far away but clearly seen. They were youngsters at play.

Kruger is very kind to us once again.

Katy

A belated birthday greeting Francolin.
I hope you have a lovely day.

A sms from Katy
"You wished us Cheetas? Right now we are at a sighting of 5 Cheetahs. Far away, but we can see them clearly. Youngsters at play."

Sms's from Katy this evening:

Yesterday we had a lovely dinner at Selati :) And sitting there we tried to imagine how it was before the Cricket started with all the Forumites around.

At first we made our way to Lower Sabie today. Saw some Ellies, lots of birds and had a Lion "hearing" but more about that in the trip report. Later we made out way to Pretoriuskop. 3 Rhinos and in all a very lovely drive. You can still see the place of the bush fires around here. Some fresh green is coming through but in other places the grass is still very high.

Looking forward to our last full day tomorrow.

Katy

Oh, and we have been to the movies. We saw a lovely film about a Leopard. It was the first time that we have been to a film show here in Kruger. Very special.
