Macho Mouse goes meandering again 18-22 October

Unread postby Meandering Mouse » Mon Oct 16, 2006 7:50 am

I am now at peak excitement stage. I will be leaving for Kruger on Wednesday for my longed for walking adventure in the bush.
Most of the time I will be outside of cell phone transmission range, but there is the occasional spot where messages can go through.
I have pm'd Vonnie to ask whether she would mind reporting on any sightings, but I know she is really very busy at the moment. I am therefore looking for some kind soul who would be happy to be my messenger.

She found it! 8)

But it would seem she's forgotten her specs? No sightings?
Arriving currently: The photos from our trip! Overhere! :yaya:

It is late and I am very tired.
You are half right Vonnie.
I was out of cell phone range until Saturday and by then my battery was flat.
I did try to send a message saying, "we have just had sundowners watching lions drinking from a river, while a troop of baboons played around us."
Watch this page for some really good stuff.

Just to whet your appetite... imagine sitting watching an African sunset, sipping wine. On the other side of the river four young lions are drinking water. A fifth lion is lying on its back with its tummy exposed to the setting sun.
A few metres away a troop of baboons provide comical relief.
sigh.

Enjoyed myself is an understatement...

Sun-downers with 160 Buffalo edging closer, and then shying away, while sipping a glass of Chardonnay.

I am waiting for my photos....
just another juicy "trailer", like they have in the movies....
imagine eating breakfast in the open, 20 metres away from an ellie munching a tree.

I am waiting for my photos, someone is putting them on a disk for me.
Just another titbit....
imagine driving at dawn towards your walking destination and suddenly the vehicle has to stop in a hurry due to four young lions lying sprawled over the road. As you pass them they look with curiosity at the vehicle and you notice that the one lion is panting furiously.
Maybe an unsuccesful attempt at a kill, you wonder.

So here is the report :D
This trip has been a long time a coming.
I was meant to go on the walk in August, but a couple of weeks beforehand a group of six people from Cape Town left us stranded and the walk was cancelled.
The organiser contacted me and asked whether I wanted my money back or another booking.
Eish.. who could consider cancelling a chance in the bush.
so I said I would do my own thing in August, but put me down for the next walk.

As for August  I went wandering around Berg n Dal and loosing tent poles
:D but I did see some of the greatest sightings of my life   without a camera.

"Right MM", I thought, "time to change your life."
Never, never go to Kruger again without a camera or a torch.

I found a torch on sale... with 5 settings :D and a good Samaritan offered me the use of one of his cameras.
  I do have a digital camcorder but we have not yet learnt to understand each other.
On the other hand my good photographer friend had said, 'with this camera, just aim and fire"

So the morning of the 18th arrived:

MM and an imaginary friend.

This is how i looked when the alarm went off.
