P.S. Arks, is the bird a white eye, greenbul, or something else entirely?

Thanks lemonbalm, I can see why it's difficult to tell. As for the birdie, I think that it's a female spectacled weaver.

Was just brushing up on my plant/tree ids... and browsing this thread..... Arks I think you have a sombre greenbul in your tree!! Not a female weaver!

Can anyone help with an ID for this tree? Seen at Mountain Zebra NP in July 2015.

You like the difficult genera Arks! I would guess at one of the species/subspecies in the Acacia karroo complex. And yes, I still call them Acacias! I was at the meeting where we lost the name and it was not pleasant.

Thanks lemonbalm :gflower: I googled and it looks like you're spot on, as usual. I'd thought that it was some sort of acacia -- and since when have the names been changed?!? I'm not a fan of arbitrary name changing, as with many birds  Since I first learned names for RSA birds in 1984 -- and they're after all not "my" birds  -- I see no reason to learn these new names. And recently I was told that it's been decided now to revert to the "old" bird names, so ....
