Ok, I will have a go. I had a quick look through my copy of South African Wildflowers Guide 3, Cape Peninsula. Try get hold of a copy as it may help you.

Hi Larks

About your Lampranthus, it is quite possible that what you have there is just a different colour form.

Photos 3 & 4 are Euphorbia sellata.

Not sure about the rest.

Nice pics

I would ID them as follow:

#1 & 2 - Cadaba aphylla (Desert Broom),

#3 & 4 - Euphorbia stellispina ((Afr) Noorsdoring / Sterretjie-noors);

#5 - this 1 is very difficult as one can not make out distinct features or see the leaves etc, but my best guess will be something like Galenia africana

#6 - Polygala asbestina ((Afr) Skaap-ertjie)

Yup, Euphorbia stellispina!

Euphorbia stellata has an underground tuber and numerous flat "arms". Got the 2 names mixed up, but the plants themselves look very different.

Here are a couple of plants that I saw at Cape Point in March 2010. I've looked and looked through my Field Guide to Fynbos, but haven't found anything conclusive, so I hope that someone can help me with the ID.

1. This first one might be a penaea, perhaps penaea mucronata?



2. And this second one I'd think is a protea or more likely a leucadendron, but none of the photos in my field guide come even close



Any help will be greatly appreciated!

LOL arks you know i struggle with some of the Cape plants but will give it a try...

#1. This 1 is very difficult to say because it seems as if the plant is suffering some condition, hence the abnormal colour. My guess would be Staavia radiata (but it could also be one of the Rutaceae or Ericaceae).

#2. I agree with Leucadendron sp. but think it will be impossibe from this pic to brake it down further, sorry

I did a bit of googling and that first one might be what you suggest, but from what I remember of the plant, it looked like that orange was its normal colour ... I suppose that I could try to find it again in September? A lot of these Cape plants are just going to have to remain mysteries, and I'll enjoy them just as much even if I don't know their names!

I saw this plant in the Silvermine section of TMNP near the end of July. It was next to the path just above the dam, about 30cm in height.



Would this be a Watsonia Angustifolia?

Nice photo, Wanda! My field guide (Field Guide to Fynbos by John Manning) doesn't list that specific watsonia, nor any that bloom in July. However, there are two for August and both look like possible matches for yours, tho it's always hard to tell from photos (neither photo in my books shows the interesting two-toned colour). So maybe either watsonia coccinea or watsonia spectabilis.

Thanx arks! I did google both your suggestions, but as you say, the pix do not show the striking two-tone colour of the flowers. Perhaps some Watsonia fundi will shed more light on this plant?

Isn't that Arctopus? According to POSA there are 3 species, and I don't have the paper that describes the differences -- any Kapenare out there who can lend a hand?
