Help pls!

Yes we seem to have had a lot of luck with Caracal while camping at Balule and also just south of the Olifants bridge before you turn right onto the Timbavati road we have seen them twice on different trips on that stretch of about 12 kms. Also the fabulous Shongololo road at the back of Mopani Camp..IMO one of the best predator roads in Kruger (probably because it is an unpopular area???) we have seen a caracal with 2 kittens in 2006

Hi Pikkie, I have not seen recently any caracal, but years ago I was lucky enough to see 3 different sightings in one afternoon late, between Bangu waterhole and Balule. It seems to me to your best chances are around Balule and Olifants.

Believe me they are not easily found!

Good luck! :!:

I saw a caracal once, around Satara. It was one of the first times I went to the KNP. I didn't even know what it was.. :?

It's strange how some animals seem to follow certain people around - like you can (Peter) Betts he'll see caracal anytime! Some people spend eternities looking for some animals and don't see them, while others see hoards of herds everywhere! What is that all about? Perhaps it has something to so with this New Age Law of Attraction? Which is probably why I see so many warthogs?? In all my years of Krugering (and visiting other parks), not even a tail hair of a caracal has graced my retinae! I still try valiantly every time I drive in Kruger though, using positive rhetoric, previsioning techniques, and self-belief. Perhaps naomi C and I are destined for each other, especially if neither of us see the cat any time soon?? One slight compensation is that I saw tons of karakul while driving through the Karoo recently! Well, the sound dripped off my tongue nicely, but failed to assuage my increasing urgency to spot a caracal in the wild. I WILL see one soon, I put it to you all ... And I'll photograph it too, just for good measure.

Havent read all the posts but from my experiences WCNP has been the best for me. Saw a female with two large kittens on the 17th Jan 09 near Kraalbaai.
Saw an adult male in Postberg watching bat eared foxes a few weeks back and another nearby.
For the WCNP must have seen well over 20 by now - dont think there is a better place to see them.
Otherwise one at S100 S41 junction and 2 subadults that used to hang around the Augrabies Falls picnic site.
