Leopard Killed Impala, hide it and cover blood. (video)

Unread postby pietert » Thu May 29, 2014 8:15 am

We came around a corner and saw this leopard that just caught an Impala. It pulled it out of sight and hid it in the long grass. It then came around the tree and proceeded to cover the blood of the Impala. Probably to prevent other predators to smell it. It then left the scene and we also had to leave, since it was getting late to get to Satara.

The next morning we went back and found the guy there, very sleepy, most probably ate its prey as well as defending it against others. It then went to sleep out of sight and we had to leave.

It was a very beautiful specimen and a wonderful sighting.

Agree 100%

I also love all the bird sounds in the background. I made me feel as though I was sitting right next to you. Great video.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.

A couple of my favourite leopard shots, finally managed to upload images successfully :D

On the move late evening - Timbavati area

Incredible camouflage. You would miss this every time if you didn't see it walking first.

Evening patrol - Biyamiti weir (S114)

Hi onewithnature, strange behaviour indeed. I remember someone telling me that this was the dung of a male hippo and that the leopard was eating it for the testosterone.

I hope he had breath mints
