A question for you Agrella, apart from your ugly eye which I once briefly had before my current one,

Was the lion sighting near the buffs? The reason I ask is if you hang around where a large herd of buffs crosses the road, often lions follow.

Sorry about the eye thing

No lion near the buffalo - maybe I should have waited a bit longer after the herd grossed!

2) I wonder if someone could explain the collars on the two foremost buffs?!

This may be wrong Richprins but I also saw buffs with collars and was told by a ranger that it was to do with a survey tracking the spread of tuberculosis in the park.

No problem about the eye, from one beady to another.

The lion/buffalo thing I only learned here on the forum a few weeks ago and have yet to put it into practise! You can never know it all hey.

On 20 March I left Satara camp at 05h30 for home. As I was towing a large caravan I kept to the tar roads and my route home was H1-3, H10, H4-1, H1-1, and then the H3. I usually travel at 40 km/h when towing for home. Also if I miss a sighting when towing that's it. Very difficult to reverse to follow an animal!
This is the timing of the big 5, all of them close to the side of the road and all photographed.
06h24. Female Leopard with 2 sub adult offspring, just before Kumana Dam. They quickly disappeared into the undergrowth.
06h29. Male Lion crossing the road at Kumana Dam. He also disappeared into the thick grass on the opposite side of the dam.
06h44. Small herd of Buffalo about a kilometre past Kumana Dam.
08h02. Elephant bull on the H10.
08h31. Square lipped Rhino on the H10.
Not a bad trip home.
