Saw a Side striped Jackal most nights from our campsite at Tsendze including a sighting in the Adjacent Mooiplaas pic spot as we made our way back alone on foot in the dusk after watching the sun go down well after everybody had left for Tsendze by road and Mopani camp. It called many times at night too

Thank you for the compliment on my photo…more a case of opportunity than skill….this is for sure one of my most special sightings I had in Kruger….the young jackals were after the Korhaan’s chicks and she tried to get them to follow her.

Here is another photo I was able to get:

I saw a side-striped jackal in KNP once - near Pretoriouskop!

Couldn`t get a pic though :x

Just looked at the pic from the webcam - I´m not sure what it is to be honest...

There was a web shot that I *just* missed being able to save to my PC, and it certainly looked canine in that shot. Wish I could have grabbed it.

Anyone think SSJ are more common these days in the Kruger Area??
In the Sabi Sands would see them once a week with ease and even had a den on our airstrip.
In KNP December 2005 2 good sightings:
7 (all looked to be subadults) running South on the H1-4 close to the S90 junction at about 530am.
And did anyone else spot the den in the bushline in the Southern parts of that prominent open area on the H1-6 North of the S62 (Letaba area). Had distant but good viewing of at least 2 adults and 3 pups on 2 occassions there. :)

What a beautiful little animal, and awesome pics. This is still very much on my wish list.

Bornfree.
