We saw a herd of Sable on the H1-2 to Tshokwane on Saturday 25th September and notice that the one below has a collar. Would be interested to find out why they are tracking them?

Hi bat :)

Its most likely tracking the sable to acquire data on its ecology , range use, foraging ecology etc. I cant tell from the pic if the collor has a switch on the nase which would be pressed if the animal puts its head down, if it does then its most definately a foraging ecology study.

Hi Bat and Odesey.

Here are some pics of the same herd of Sable Anthelope, counted 32 in total.
Some close up pics of the one with the collor. Maybe this might help you make your decicion on the collor.

Enjoy the pics.

:D Thanks for sharing - we waited around but they would not come out of the bush to get decent pics. Thanks Oddysey - makes sense that it would be an eco study!

What a great sight TINY!!!

I big herd of sable.

That is excellent news. The biggest herd I have seen was 10, and I don't see them often. Maybe the numbers are growing.
