RP, how long was this track? And are you sure the two aren't mutually exclusive? - In the small bit of pic that you show us here, there is no consistancy in where the thin deep line is in relation to the wider shallower line.

Yes BushFairy, this has also been bothering me... :hmz: First impression was antlion as Batmad has suggested, but that is only for the indentation side of the spoor. The combination of flattened part and indentation... :hmz:

The track came out of the grass from the now-defunct water-trough end of the parking lot, and continued for about 30m before disappearing into the grass again!

Very obvious, otherwise even I wouldn't have noticed! :D

Perhaps another clue would be that it was a diurnal animal, as this was after the morning's cars had already left their tyre marks.. :? (About 10am)

The trail was not entirely straight, meandering at most a couple of metres to either side.

The sand was very soft indeed...powder!

Maybe the answer is that the puffadder had something stuck in its cloaca, (or anus for us humans)...?!

No jokes, I promise!

There seem to be small indentations both sides of the "sleepsel" - seem to be the tracks of a long legged insect ? . . . . .

Well, then ... in that case, it seems that none of us who have replied, know for sure, either?!

I'm not sure RP has too much authority in that area

We were the first people at Babalala picnic spot one morning. It seemed like the attendant wasn't even around yet. We found spoor there, the size of a large dog's, like a Rottweiler maybe.

Hyena?
