Cousin to the Lichtensteins Hartebeest. He was too close for a full body pic so I did a face shot instead!

The last pics are Tsessebe I think? Still very rare in Kruger.

Here is a pic of a Red Hartebeest taken in Addo (lots of them there)

Tsessebe? With those hooked/curved horns? No it ain't! I'm not too up-to-date on animals in the rest of Africa, but those horns are not tsessebe, these are:

Bishop3006 you also "seem" to have it wrong???...your pic directly above looks awefully like a non Sanparks animal ...the TOPI found only in East Africa and not the typical Tssessebe which has different markings and much flatter spread out horns...where was your pic taken??? San Parks??? Doesnt look like Kruger at all and very like Serengeti??? The horns in the pic above yours are Red Hartebeest not found in Kruger...looks like a KTP or Etosha pic where Hartebeest are common....Many hunters often misidentify prey species like the hunter recently in Alldays who paid the farmer R8500 to shoot a trophy Kudu Bull and ended up paying him in excess of R31000 for mistakingly shooting a Afrikander Bull :D

That's a Tssessebe alright Yolande ...the coloring and the horns are spot on and the habitat is correct as well.

I know Tsesebe are one of the fastest antelopes, but does anyone know if a hartebeest can keep up? They seem to have similar builds.

Tssessebe are like Hartebeest and very fast...if either of them were running in the Durban July...I would back them instead of a racehorse..Hartebeest used to outrun in Stamina any Boer Hunters horse

Peter,

I wasn't really paying too much attention (it was already past midnight and I wanted to get to bed  ) and didn't give credit for the photo as I should have - it is off some or other hunting site, unfortunately not a photo of my own. But it is South African hunting site. Did look somewhat funny to me, but as I say...

But tell me, how the HECK does one make a mistake between a KUDU and an AFRIKANER BULL? Serves him right to have to pay that extra money! But if he got the meat he's got on helluva lot of biltong!
