hey bud,

Looks like a yellow mongoose ( Cynictis penicillata penicillata) to me. tracks look 3cm from claw mark to pug, which seems to be consistent with cynictis.

its my best guess anyway.

Nick

not half as bad as my first lion cub prints I saw in addo, and then it was pointed out to me, that it was indeed a jackal and lions have retractable claws........those were the days   :slap:

I think an otter has more splayed toe prints, and teh cape clawless otter wouldnt have claw marks .

still its a good piccie you got, not all animal tracks are as clear.

Hey Nicky...think you are right about mongoose but as far as I know you don't get yellow mongoose in the WCNP...more like small grey mongoose

Perhaps! THey (YM) certainly seem to occupy large areas of South Africa. Just never seen them in the many months I have spent in the park but then again saw Honey Badger for the first time there last year and someone reported Cape Clawless Otter last year as well and hadn't even known of these animals presence all along so yip its possible!
