I have also heard that a leopard caught a bushbuck in front of guests at timbavati :)

There was an incident with a Leopard at Timbavati, but I think that it was some time ago. I even remember a thread on the forum discussing it.

That was in July 2005. Friends that I took there the previous day went back and it happened when they were there - and I was not :wall:

Not so weird in that it happens often.
But unusual that it happened around 8 AM, and that I was lucky enough to watch it start to finish.
5 lions, 2 females, 1 subadult male, 1 subadult female and 1 cub killed a buffalo cow and calf....and foetus. No pix of the calf in this post, a single lioness to care of that and was a bit far from us. We focused on the cow.

The grab (my camera jammed, bummer, not more good pictures of this)
Image

Once they had the cow down they looked up into the distances where a few more buffaloes were standing...

But decided to proceed with the cow they had...

And then, nature displayed itself in a very gruesome way, the buffalo cow had been pregnant, and the lion cub had a feast...

I believe in 'that's natures way' and all but that last picture was quite a shock.

Must've been a hell of an experience though. :)
