I'm pretty sure the genes are still around in the Timbavati - Tshokwane area in Kruger too, so just a matter of time, IMHO!

Unfortunately they are unlikely to appear anywhere else, as the lionesses don't really move long distances!

Hi guys I remember reading a thread here a long time ago about white lions in the Kruger. Can someone please be so kind as to help me locate it?

Eish, Elsa, Klystron, I think we need to go and find these lion on our next trip into Kruger. That is the wonderful thing about the place, there is always something else you have on your wish list.

There has been some reports in the Timbavati and also the adjoining Klaserie. Mostly young animals at the moment.

Have never seen a white lion (even in captivity) WOW, it would be amazing to see them in the wild

My new goal

Been trying to see them in the wild for many years - no such luck - but I did get a few phodies back in 2005.

Guess it's ok to post them after all the years - mods feel free to remove.

First one may not look like a white lion, but he's an old guy - probably dead by now.

I can honestly say these were the best cared for lions in captivity that I have ever seen - just look how darn fat and lazy they were.

Wow Avon superb pics. I have seen many Lions over the past but never white. I would love to see white lions in Kruger.



I have set my goal for next Kruger trip in June, Searching for the White Lion. Would be a great title for my TR as well.



If I am not mistaken they have taken out the fence between Kruger and Timbavati right, so there is a chance of the young males moving into Kruger right

@Kallis1786. The white lions have been spotted in the Klaserie/Timbavati/Umbabat region as recently as middle November. So it appears that they are sticking to that area but nothing prevents them from moving to Kruger. And yes, there are no fences to keep them in. All three above mentioned areas now form part of the greater Kruger area. (We have got a trip planned to the Umbabat area for middle February and hopefully we will spot the white ones.)

Thats great news . Hopefully I can see them in the Timbavati loop on my trip in June. that they move to the orpen area.

We saw white lioness in the Klaserie/Timbavati on the 26th November. Amazing to see

The now eaten white cubs were part of the Ross pride. As the name implies, the farm Ross in the Klaserie is part of their core territory, along with Joubertshoop, which is mostly in the Timbavati. These farms are almost due west of Leeubron, but as the crow flies the distance is 30 - 42 km, with plenty of tawny lion prides in between. Your chances of encountering a white lion on the S39 are very slim.

Edited to add that there is also a pair of "white" subadults in the Dundee/Seekoeigat area, but that's even farther away.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO That is my dream sighting down the drain. But LIFE is too long, hopefully can see them when am 60, am only 18 ryt now
