On Saturday 23 July I went for a drive during the rugby test and didn't know were to go so I thought that the Manzimhlophe dam will be a good spot. Before a got to the dam i stopped at a drift were the animals had dug for water. I sat watching the zebra drink the seepage about 2m from the car. About 20min later the first Sable appeared! He chased of the Zebra that was drinking at one of the holes about another 10 later the cow appeared! I was the only car!
The funny thing was i saw Sable in exactly the same spot 3 years ago!

A special sighting, Issi. BTW, I also usually go driving during rugby tests - to get away from the frenetic noise of radios and TV's blaring in camp.

Good sighting and photos Issi.
No wonder you were the only car at the scene when you are driving during rugby tests.

Nice, issi!

Manzimhlope seems to have been dry for a while now, hence the digging!

Thanks you all for the kind comments! Sable are very special and seeing them are a privilege!
On the rugby, it sounds a lot better if you can only hear them lose rather than seeing them lose! And I get to watch animals!

During my recent Sept trip I was fortunate to spot a herd of 13 Sable including an adult bull. I tracked this herd for at least 15 minutes in the thick bush near Jones se dam before I was able to get a clear photo of the bull as he crossed the S36.

Thanks BB, FC and A-M. The sable sighting was certainly one of the highlights of my trip. It certainly is a special sighting for me. The last time I saw a sable prior to this one was in Nov 2007.
