its most likely to show identifacation if it has either been tagged or vaccinated so that they dont do it again

I just cant comprehend how anyone can just walk up to a beautiful beast like this and shoot a magazine of AK-47 bullets into it and watch it slowly die in order to cut half its face off

Strange behaviour a year ago.

This rhino was enjoying its mud bath, and got chased out by the buff on the right...actually touched!

Image

So it went after the other buff!

(All pretty much slow motion...not exactly a fight to the death! )

Lost the $%%^# video footage! :wall:

These must be the stupidest animals in Kruger, just my opinion!

First time I've ever been stopped by a herd of rhino...took about 40 minutes!

They are so dumb.

How we got through is an email story!

People, please remember to leave out the locations!

Dear forumites,

In your trip reports and general input on the forums, please do not refer to rhinos or other endangered species if the info may contribute to putting these animals at risk.

Aside from rhinos you should think of nesting places of rare birds like Pel's fishing owl and animals that run the risk of being poached. When in doubt please contact a moderator.

Please respect the sensitivity of this subject, and help us raise awareness in this regard.

For more info please read here: Media Release: War on rhino poaching still on.

Thank you,

Bobbi, that is a beautiful moment that you have captured with your camera.  I have seen baby rhinos before but not as small as that one. It cannot be older than a couple of days. Thanks for sharing.

In my opinion the sighting boards need to have rhino sightings removed as they are more dangerous to these wonderful animals, then by forum members mentioning it's location several weeks later. In our recent trip all sighting boards still had pins for rhino sightings which are current and would make it easy for poachers.

I don't know if is the best and the good place  ... BUT

please "try" to don't put the place of the Rhinos, White or Black, you saw in the park... it's for their life

too many people continue to give too much information

I think there's a story about this rhino shown here .
As you can see , his one horn was removed , and his one ear is gone .

I cannot recall what his story was , but I think he had moved from somewhere in the south , to around Mopani camp , which is where we saw him in 2006/2007 . I think he was named Hap-oor or something , but he was quite a gentle beast , and as can be seen , used to frequent the area just north of Mopani . We only saw him a couple of times , and then he died -, how , I do not recall either , but I have vague recollections of seeing his bloated carcass in that same area in 2007 ?
Perhaps someone can tell us ?

The following report appeared on Facebook:
``This morning a lady phoned into our talk station, 702 to say they have just witnessed a Rhino near Crocodile Bridge die and had appeared to have been shot. They phoned the camp to be told there was NO one there to come out due to a strike. Next thing a man appeared from the bush with a rifle and indicated that he was waiting for the poachers. Last week I told you how the army was driving bat out of hell along Skukuza and Lower Crocodile, surely they could have called the army in...makes me think of who else is in the pay packets of these thugs/poachers? I am feeling sick in my stomach as we are sure we saw this Rhino as he had a wonderful horn and is often seen in this area.''

Decades ago when elephant poaching for ivory reached epidemic proportions in places like Tsavo, East Africa, it was found that government officials were heavily involved, mostly parks officials and politicians....

After the arrest of 4 parks officials recently in Kruger, and the arrest of a Chinese who had millions of Rands worth of rhino horn in Cape Town last week, I am starting to wonder if the same problem is not facing us too...
(NB NO offence to 99% courageous, faithful officials, but concerned about the minority who could be corrupt!)

On my last trip to Kruger in December, this rare moment gave us hope

Image

now I wonder how long it will last!

God bless,

Friedrich von Hörsten

It is such a pitty that groups of rhinos are not a regular sighting any more. A special sighting indeed and thanks for sharing it with us   :cam:
