Thanks Aat,

Tusks look very different depending on the angle, so if the ears are the same, then good. In that pic the right tusk looks much straighter and thinner than Isilo's...

Keep up the good work.

God bless,

Friedrich von Hörsten

Hi,

I saw a link on Facebook that Mac has died. Is this true, does anybody know about it?

Mant this may have originated here:

http://www.krugerpark.co.za/krugerpark- ... 21943.html

I'm not so sure how out of date this page is, as |Mac has been seen several times in the last few years. His last photo on the Tuskers of Africa site is on 27 April 2012 He may have died since the last sighting, but as this page seems to imply that Duke is also alive I think it must beout of date? Not sure about this Tusker competition, have never seen anything about it, maybe it was also several years ago . . . .

Aat would probably know more.

From the Save the Elephants FB page it seems clear that Mac has passed on. There are also photos of his removed tusks as well as his molars. Sad day indeed.

@ All,
The only thing I can do it to confirm that MAC has died. Another Big Tusker has gone.

MAC was the very first Big Tusker I met and he was the one who inspired me to create a special Tusker site.
RIP MAC

This is the link to MAC's pages

I can help you with this, it was the Emerging Tusker Competition, which was started in 2006, but discontinued after a few years, not sure why :?

Shame poor Mac, another tusker I would have liked to have met.

I've got a little information about Mac but I don't know how to paste it here because it is a PDF, does anyone know how?

Mant,
The Mac you are referring to is a tusker who lived in the southern region but that was many years ago and is not the MAC who recently passed away.

Here the full text about MAC (collared and tracked / traced by STE (Save The Elephants)

We regret having to report that Mac has died. His carcass was found in the Kruger National Park and upon closer inspection of the carcass it appears that he starved to death.
Although he was in his late 50s, a severe abscess in his upper le...ft jaw resulted in the rapid degradation of the grinding surface of the molars in his right jaw which he clearly favoured.
Mac’s tusks were in excess of 100 lbs a side with the longest being 2.47 m in length and with a circumference of approximately 50cm. We will sorely miss his gracious presence when visiting our area during his annual musth cycle.
We pay tribute to this magnificent animal that represented one of the largest tusked, continually tracked elephants in Africa. After having the privilege of getting to know your home range of over 7 000 km2, your annual trek of up to 200km whilst in musth and seeing your incredible tusks increase in size over the 10 year period that we have come to know you, we salute you Mac and will do all we can to continue protecting your kind!

text by Michelle Henley

Hi Aat,

The information I have got is the same as yours by the Save the Elephants Foundation. The author is Michelle Henley.

It's not the Mac that died many years ago.
