A friend and I keep track of all our leopard sightings, and I had this idea to add other uncommon mammals to the list during some idle time.
I have come up with 11 animals and would like forumites to tell us how many you have seen IN THE NATIONAL PARKS, and in total. I have not included lions because they are ho-hum, too many to remamber.

Here goes.

Leopard - 19 (16 Kruger, 3 Kgalagadi) (1 other)
Cheetah - 25 (13 Kruger including a KILL, 12 Kgal)
Wild Dog - 70 (all Kruger including 2 KILLS)
Serval - 5 (all Kruger)
Caracal - 2 (both WCNP)
Honey Badger - 4 (2 Kruger, 2 Kgal) (2 other)
Brown hyena 5 (all Kgal)
African Wild Cat 7 (2 Kruger, 5 Kgal including a KILL)
Black Rhino 0! (12 other)
Civet 4 (all Kruger)
Side Striped Jackal 4 (all Kruger)

That is a start, I hope I have remembered them all!

Leopard - 4 (All Kruger)
Cheetah - 1 (Kruger)
Wild Dog - 5 (Kruger, 1 sighting)
Serval - 1 (Kruger)
Caracal - 2 (outside any park)
Honey Badger - none
Brown hyena 1 (In some park in the North West)
African Wild Cat 1-as a kid on our farm
Black Rhino (2 other)
Civet 1 (Kruger)
Side Striped Jackal 1 (Kruger)

Not counting the halve tame ones you see in cases

Luckily I am younger than some forumites and have time to catch up.

PS. Back to the old eye BB?

Some of these are educated estimates due to all the trips I have done sincea small child but here goes

Leopard 100s (4 in KTP,most in Kruger and adjacent properties)
Cheetah about 80 half KTP Half Kruger
Wild Dog over 100 including 65 in one morning flying with the then Kruger scientist covering all 5 packs in the south bulge of Kruger
Serval 1 in Kruger 25 yrs ago Timbavati Road 11h00
Caracal (20 alone last year in Addo but only 4 in Kruger including 1 seen 20 minutes before the Serval!!)
Honey Badger about 50 mainly in KTP ...2 beauts just outside Biyamiti last year.
Brown Hyena..about 40 in KTP only
AWC only about 7 including one called Elsa I had as a pet for 11 years as a kid.
Black Rhino..about 50 (Kruger 2, Addo 1 and the rest Damaraland, Zululand and Zambezi Valley before poaching.)
Civet...many say 40
SS Jackal about 15 all in all...heard 100s of times at night

Just to stop the bus momentarily.

BB, by "sightings" do you mean a single sighting or the estimated total number of animals?!

If you've seen wild dog 70 times in Kruger that would make you a legend!

(Not that you aren't a legend already... )
