Is Duke forgotten now that he lost his tusks?
To me his is still the most amazing elephant ever and I hope to see him again during my visit in May/June 2009.

his tusks will have a special place at the Letaba Ele hall.

When, I am not sure

Any idea why the delay? It is a while since the second one was recovered.

From the SanParks Website Annual Report:
I wrote:
Another almost annual event is Duke, probably the best known tusker ever. Last year forumites were (almost) witness to Duke breaking of his tusk, as regaled in The tale of the tusk, this year saw him break off his second tusk! Amazingly both broken off tusks were recovered, and again the forum was very quickly informed about the event, read about it from here.

Welcome to the forum Hans
I agree Duke is huge but there are some bigger ellies up north. I find then very intimidating. Duke, however is a legend in his own right. I was lucky enough to see him just before he broke his 2nd tusk

To qualify for tusks to be considered part of the great tuskers, the tusk needs to meet certain weights for eg. And as he is carrying part of his tusks on him still, it will take a while before they can determine the full weight of his complete tusks.

It would still be nice to see the tusk pieces at Letaba and know that the rest are still on the living Duke.

I can't believe that,
we were actually at Tshokwane the morning of the 15th, left, driving down the H10 but around 9.30/10am.

I have seen Duke before but Jock is desperate to see him. :?
