Thought I would share my luck!! Taken December 2009

2km after the S126 t-junction to the S36 on our way to Orpen we came across around 22 Wild Dogs being given the run around by some angry Zebra. The Wild dogs were spread around in several smaller packs trying to get some shade, but the Zebra's just would not have it and kept on chasing them around.

For Dotty!

January 29th I had a nice wild dog sighting on the S 25, just past the turn off to the Hippo Pools.

I saw this pack of wild dogs on the S25. They were shadowed by three hyena's. After a while some of the dogs walked shoulder to shoulder in the direction of the hyena's. It was nice to see that behaviour. Other dogs started running and that is when I took some panning shots.

I got really lucky with wild dogs this week.

On Monday I was on a drive with Meandering Mouse and DinkyBird sent a message to say a large group was near Kruger Tablet. When we got there a few hours later, the dogs were running down the road in our direction! The group was huge, more than 25 and possibly more than 30. We watched until several ran from the road, we heard a very brief antelope distress call and the whole pack was gone. So incredible.

Then on Tuesday, on a sunset drive from Skukuza, 16 dogs at the Stevenson-Hamilton memorial.

Then Wednesday morning travelling down the Albasini road to Numbi gate, I thought I saw a jackal in the road (my eyesight is not good), as I neared it turned out to be 5 wild dogs and I had the sighting all to myself. Only one car pulled up and a South African woman rolled her window down and said to me, 'hyenas are such a nuisance', and drove off without even stopping or glancing towards the dogs

We were very fortunate as well. On 12 March 2010 we spotted 9 WD's on the H3 and later that day we spotted 6 WD's next to the H5-1. On 13 March 2010 we spotted the 6 WD's again on the H4-1.

Herewith some of the 9 dogs:

And here the 6 dogs:

Impisi08: wonderful photos, especially the action one!   Not easy to catch the dogs at speed and clear enough to marvel at!
Strange, but I often think wild dogs, colour-wise, look like one of the most delicious biscuits in South Africa. Every time I see the colouring, I think of licking the chocolate off the biscuit - what a weird trigger that is!
