Saw this little fellow on the S126 last week. Not as brilliant a shot as some of teh others on this link, but a dwarf mongoose nevertheless.

I saw a couple this past week. and i think these are the best pics of dwarf mongoose ever. very chuffed with them. he was actually a very friendly little guy, and very nosy.

Hello! Different student than the pangolin girl, same project. I am working on an online field guide of East African Mammals. I have searched the internet for an answer to my question, but I just can't seem to find it.

Can any of you tell me the etymology of the dwarf moongoose's scientific name, Helogale Paruvula? Thank you!

parvula - from the Latin, parvus, meaning little.

And ~gale is Greek, meaning weasel. Usually the "helo" prefix refers to marsh/meadow (helos, also Greek), but somehow that just doesn't seem to fit in this case.

Its well worth it to switch off the engine and wait for a family of Dwarf mongooses to be relaxed enough and come out and play!Lovely creatures
