Yes we saw quite a few near Klopperfontein on various occations in July.

We were told that they are very fast, but also a very dumb animal - if it is scared, it would start running and then stop and come back to where they started from, many times where the danger is. Any one knows if this is true?
We were told this by a ranger.

I do know that hartebeest are curious, but I think less so than wildebeest, especially black wildebeest.

If you're out walking and see wildebeest you can actually get them to come closer to you by say sitting down and putting a handkerchief on the grass next to you, or tying it to a small tree where it will slightly flutter low down. They are curious and will come take a look what's going on. They'll also run sort of a semi-circle and then back to where they were.

I've not really observed hartebeest enough while on foot to make too informed comments on their behaviour. But one thing I do know is that they're very fast, as is blesbok.

I always enjoy seeing red harties.

The blinking Adbim's storks arrived the day after we left Nossob and are STILL there and I cannot tick them via the webcam.

Woohoo...I was right in my ID of the Abdim's storks!!! Yeehaw!!!

Yeah, when we left Nossob, we met Markw & wanderw at 2R. They were on the way to Nossob & saw the Abdims in the flesh.

Pretty funky looking things mind!

In front of our tent in Grootkolk we saw a dominant male Red Hartebeest chasing a young male Red Hartebeest out of the herd.

Seems like there are a little bit of confusion regarding the Hartebeest in our parks.
