:D :D :D
It's many years since I've seen Cheetah in Kruger but last month the almost unbelievable happened. I had read on the Forum that Cheetah were often seen on the S28 and having spotted Lion on that route earlier in the week and enjoyed the Hippo and birdlife at the viewing hide decided to re-visit.
On my way from the Crocodile Bridge end I was flagged down and told that further along there were 5 Cheetah (Mum and 4 large cubs) but really didn't expect them to wait for me. I was very WRONG and here's the evidence!

Hope you enjoy as much as I did :D :D :D

Thanx Dave

Awesome pics, and the cubs look great, the mom must have done something right for all 4 cubs still to be alive?

Hi,

When I went to Tamboti at the beginning of March I saw 2 cheetah outside Tamboti camp near Orpen Gate.

Apparently they are regularly seen, so anybody that wants to see cheetah must go down there. The road is the H7 (Orpen - Satara Road).

Here are my pics:

the road between Afsaal and the Delaporte dam is a very, very nice road for both dogs and cheetahs.
I've seen more of them on the way to Afsaal in a years time than anything else.
Image
These cheetahs hung around klippspringer koppie (T junction on PK-Skz road from BnD. totaling 7, a brilliant sighting
Image
Two at shitlehave- also seen many many times

So, although its a privilege to tour the park , sometimes its the small things that makes it worthwhile.
The rest is a bonus
It's nice to be a person. You must just be a nice person!

Cheetah with six cubs - wellbeing

Unread postby Kaapsedraai » Wed Jan 27, 2010 7:23 pm

During our first visit to KNP in May 2009 on the first morning whilst travelling the H5 to Mpondo dam from Skukuza, we came across a Cheetah with 6 cubs walking towards us in the road. It was a memorable experience and later on our way back, guess what, here they are again walking as if the road belongs to them, mother walking calmly whilst the cubs play-play following their mother.

Well, we will be visiting again in Sep 2010 and hopefully we will see them again - possibly teenagers then. Any news regarding their wellbeing - are they still all alive, together?

Looking forward to Sep - only 8 months left.

Eagle Owl wrote:What a sighting!! Wow, you were blessed. On the 15th of May 2009, during a day visit to the Park, we saw 2 male cheetahs on the H5 also on our way to Mpondo dam. Maybe one of them 's the daddy. Will try to post some pictures later today. Then we can see the cheetahs roaming that part of the park.

A few photos of the male cheetahs. After a boring trip down the S21, we turned in to the S114 and from there in to the H5. We found the cheetahs about 3 kilo's before the turn to Mpondo dam. Only car, cheetahs all to ourselves for about 7 minutes before they went in to the veld. One of our best sightings thus far in Kruger.

Thank you to all for your 'who' responses. I am glad that I shared it with all so you can look out for these cubs that will be by now 'teenagers'. 8 months to go for us, then we will be in KNP again staying the full 10 days in southern part and hopefully we will be able to see some of then. By then they will be another 16months older. Guess this makes for interesting topic to research on i.e. growth pattern i.e. 3 mths old - 1 year - 18 months etc so we can more or less recognise them again.
:D :D :D :o :o :o
