Hi Dana,

I understand your frustration. :wall: We had the exact same question and responses in May 2008. We asked at LS, Skuks and Letaba. When eating dinner at the restaurant on our first of two nights in Letaba our waiter was speaking to us and we expressed our disappointment at not getting the bush braii or even on a wait list. He immediately said it would not be a problem to organise for two for the following night. He brought either the manager or his assistant over and they took our name. He explained that it was the restaurant responsibility to organise it. He told us the time and told us to pay at reception the next day. All went smoothly and when we turned up there was one other couple. We had a short game drive then into a clearing for a lovely meal of bbq meat, salad and warm dessert. We had a fire going and there was a cash bar with wine and beer. There were three staff - our guide, the cook and the guy with the gun. :sniper: so I can understand why they wouldn't want to push it for just two. It was good fun although unless I was taking people who hadn't been it's a case of been there done that. So next time try speaking to the restaurant people and take it from there!

Has to do with the people attending the desk
We once wanted a braai at Letaba
Asked for it in the afternoon
Only 2
were put on the reservation list and asked to come back at 4.
Still only 2 so no braai
But at least they waited for other hungry people

True ... but there is the "minor" issue of having to arrange three staff members (at least) and and taking a vehicle out of use. All expensive and scarce resources in the average camp.

I arranged the same from P/Kop a few years back , I recall they require a minimum of 6 (?) people !

I tried another tack: I was asked the same Q, I answered 2 people, and was given the same response. No problem, I thought: "Yes, but my girlfriend and I each have split personalities; so that's 2 each, which makes 4 people!"
The guy cracked up and laughed solidly for two minutes. Whereupon, he promptly put our names down on a list - we were at the top. Later, when I popped in, he said that another two couples were coming with, so it would be okay. That time it all worked out fine and we have a fab time indeed!
We understand that profit requires a minimum number of people, but as has been said before on this thread, it would be to the benefit for some camps to make the effort to obtain at least the minumum number of people so that they can make it worth both their whiles and ours.

I love them and will do another one soon.
It combines the sunset drive, food under the stars and a nightdrive
Both drives are 2 hours

Fee, we would love to have one too! We will be a group of 6 people and are in Lower Sabie the 5th and 6th April. If there is a biggish group our chances might be better to get one organised. Apparently one must apply at the restaurant. If you would like to discuss the possibility, please pm me!

You need at least 6 and best to make the arrangements a day before you intend to do the braai
And yes, you can ask for vegetarian and chicken.
Remember, you are the customer

Nkulu, hold your protest and toi toi. Spoke to the manager of LS and they do bush braais. There have been changes to the way it was being organised, and its not being currently advertised. Need to book in advance with min 4 people by email.
Not sure about other camps, but its good news out of LS.

phone skukuza camp direct and ask the manager. I queried one out of LS for April, and the manager has been exceptionally helpful and emailed me all the information i needed for it.
Hope you have success otherwise change your booking to LS!

You will be able to confirm by contacting the camp manager of Skukuza quoting your reference numbers and I suggest you do it beforehand. Apparently bush braais are going ahead again now because Fee was able to organise one for us and them at Lower Sabie, but I am afraid their prices are now too steep for us to do it! I am sure one of the mites will have an e-mail address for you as it might be a bit difficult for you to phone.
Enjoy your stay and your bush braai and remember your yellow ribbon.

Well, I did get feedback from LS and can tell you it is way out of my price range and the other parties who wanted to come along. R480-00 per person.
If a sunset drive is R160-00 then the braai is R300.
I did then get a reply from LS who said they had complaints from other parties about the price and would discuss it again with management and make it more affordable for
South Africans.
Looks like they were only think about tourists bringingg in $$. .
So, hoping we can get still get a good deal for us Saffies.

Wow Bushbraais are now around R480 per person...is it really worth it compared to your own braai at a perimeter bungalow? I have been tempted to go on one of these for quite a while but nearly a R1000 for SO and me seem so much...

So in your humble forumite opinions, what would be nicer, a bush braai at Satara or Lower Sabie?

Maybe I can surprise the hubster for our anniversary  ... and that will be a great excuse to spend the money!!

We wanted to go on a bushbraai for my birthday, but 6 times R480 equals at least two more nights in KNP for all of us. Guess what will win!
