I am also trying to pre-arrange a bush braai at Lower Sabie (for 2 people). You need to phone the restaurant (not reception) 013 735 0065. I spoke with Hector (supervisor) who said the minimum qty for a bush dinner is 10. But I want to double check this because I thought it was 4 persons? I'm planning to call again and ask for Thabo, who is apparently the restaurant manager.

I was told they don't keep a list so how are they going to know when the minimum quantity has been reached (unless it's a group booking)? It seems to be a bit of a last-minute thing... a few days in advance it can more easily be arranged... frustrating.

The current price is R203pp and timing is approx 8-9:30pm (although again, I think the timing= wrong information because I think they leave before sunset to include a bit of a game drive. Perhaps he meant the dinner itself starts at 8?)

We will be in Satara 21st -23 March staying in Rudy Frankel guest house. So excited normal for us has been camping which we love but this is going to be a real treat. Thinking of doing a bush breakfast. Any feedback of what to expect and would our older relatives in their 70's be able to cope ( ie any toilet facitlities) and the drive length etc?

I dont know about a toilet.
But in general its 1 hours sunset drive to the braai area
And tables are laid, fire is on and the food is great.
Will ask around for toilet facilities

Went on one from Letaba to the site of the largest (at the time in 1999 ?) known leadwood tree in the KNP , it also ended with a shortened game drive , I consider it well worth the money .

The restaurant does not book the Bush Braais as you have a drive beforehand and this is with SanParks - please speak to SanParks about it and I am sure they will be able to organise it for you. They in turn let us know and we will certainly be able to do it.

looks like a braai at Skukuza on 17th Sept and Satara on 20th. If it all comes off it will be heaven for me as we are taking my parents to Kruger for the 1st time.

Although it is not advertised outside the reception area yet, Bush braais are available from Lower Sabie. We have been negociating with SANParks to allow us to host bush braais that operates from Lower Sabie. Lower Sabie had some logistical challenges in the past and there were not really any bush braais booked through them. We also wanted to make it an affordable experience compared to previous rates. We have synergies that allow us to provide a great braai at a lesser cost.
At the moment a sunset drive costs R160 at Lower Sabie. A bush braai combined with a night/sunset drive costs only R310 from Lower Sabie.
The route takes guests along the H4-1 to Nkuhlu. There a fire and beautiful tables await them in the far western corner with lantern and candle lights. The spread is a selection of salads, freshly baked bread, selection of braaied meats, pap & sheba, veggies, potatoes and desserts. We offer a welcome drink and a selection of drinks(alcoholic and other)are available on a cash basis.
Although it is not fenced it is relatively safe as there is an armed guide present.
We have done a trial run with staff from Lower Sabie and some invited guests and it really is a great experience at the right price. We hope that this will become very popular with forumites in particular as they are always clued up on what is hot in the Park.
Please note that this is operated by Outpost Picnics only from Lower Sabie and that all other Bush Braais from other camps are operated by Tree Restaurants at different rates. They have higher set-up costs to be fair.

It is less expensive than If you go on a night drive and could still manage to get back for a buffet dinner in the restaurant.

I forgot to mention that we ask for minimum 4 guests. We hope this will democratise and that there will always be a couple of guests. Another point is that SANparks organises the nightdrive part and they could have vehicle limitations ( I hope only in the beginning). To avoid this we advise advanced bookings through Lower Sabie reception. Their number is 013 7356056/7. The person in charge of all activities is guide Irving Knight. If you phone reception for a booking they will give you his personal number to book with him anyway. To save time you can phone him directly on 082 735 7459. He might be out on guided walks so you could also e-mail him at irvingk@sanparks.org.

Apologies for "chipping in" . Mopani Restcamp also does bushbraais & breakfasts . We are fortunate to have 2 sights : Nzopforini for groups up to 30 and Mooiplaas Picnic Area is used for larger groups . We require a minimum of 4 persons as well .

I will try and post some photos of Nzopforini .
