I read it will take up to 4 weeks for the card to arrive by registered mail .... so I think for touring in October, August would be best month to order to have absolutely enough time, right?

I wouldn't worry about actually getting your card, especially as you want its 12-month period to start as close to the start of your trip as possible — particularly important if you might return to SA within the 12-month validity of the card. The actual card can take a lot more than 4 weeks to arrive, so it's best to just use the confirmation letter that you will receive by email when you buy your card. The confirmation letter is just as good as the actual card, which might not arrive by the time you leave, even if you order it months in advance

Hi Meleah and Welcome!

Sorry to disappoint you but we international visitors have ONLY the option of buying the international visitors card. The reason being, as I understand it, that as we do not pay RSA taxes, we pay a higher conservation fee and are also not given the option of any of the any of the cards that are limited to smaller groupings of parks. I expect that this may be because there are far fewer international visitors than locals, so no need to provide a wider variety of options to a small segment of cardholders.

Hi All,

Need advise on SANPARKS conservation fee as I am very confused.

I am not a South African national but living here for 5 years now with valid work permit and paying taxes.

Have been to Kruger park 4 times now but the conservation fees were charged different couple of times.
We had a day trip starting from Numbi Gate where we paid fees applicable to SA nationals as we were carrying our work permit and tax documents.

Last year booked at Skukuza but had to pay international visitor fee.
Can someone shed some light on the conservation fee applicable in our case?

It's rediculous to have SA Salary and Tax and pay international conservation fee.
I am a nature lover and mad about Kruger but never stayed in the park for more than 3 days because of the conservation fee :(
Saving for a trip this year.

Hi Bush hugger and Welcome!

I'm sure that as an RSA resident, you should be paying the local rate for conservation fees and Wild Card. However, I will hope that Joep will see your post and clarify this — or you could send him a PM?

I agree Maleah, that should be sufficient time. You are welcome to query after4 weeks or so and we can check for you.

With kind regards.

Hi All,

Wanted to share the useful information with everyone.

Dear Bush hugger,

Many thanks for your enquiry. For conservation fees, South African residents are defined as any person that has residence in SA, even if it is of temporary nature. Please therefore ensure that you always have your passport and residence permit with you when you enter national parks and insist on being charged local fees. If you have problems, please contact me. If you wish you can scan your residence permit and send to me for confirmation.

Kind regards.

JOEP STEVENS

Great news, Bush hugger  Joep's clarification here should help many who may be unsure about which WC/conservation fees they qualify for.

Good info all around in here folks, thank you.

I was in a rush to buy my Wild Card, but really it looks like I can do it anytime as long as I have the confirmation email. Good to know!
