Buying wild card at the entrance gate

Unread postby Thalie » Wed Apr 06, 2011 7:01 am

Hello,
We're a family of four from Germany and we're going to stay in KNP for six nights in July. We plan to buy a wild card for international visitors. I understand that this can be bought at the entrance gate - is this still true? On the website it says that once you bought your wild card voucher at the gate, you have to update your details online. Within what period do you have to do that? It might be difficult for us to go online while we are on vacation.
The other question we have is if we will be able to use this voucher for other parks during our stay in South Africa, e.g. in the Cape? Or would you suggest that we buy the card online before we leave and hope that it arrives in time?
Thanks for your help.

Dear Thalie,

Thanks for the query. We are still in transition phase with the Wild Card system and will be so for another few months. This relates mainly to the issuing of the actual Wild Cards to new and existing members. For the interim, the new members can use their Wild Card numbers obtained during purchase process for free access to relevant parks, together with the usual means of identification. Existing members with "old" Infinity issued Wild Cards can continue to use these with the letter of confirmation that are issued upon update of their information on the website. Regarding the purchase options (Thalie, your specific question), there are two options, namely online and upon arrival in the park. The online one is the full process where all personal details are required and upon completion, you are issued with a Wild Card number, which can be used to access all relevant parks. The process at the parks is a shortened process where only key details are captured and this was done to not encumber the gate officials or receptionists with capturing the full personal details as this will lead to delays at gates and receptions. Here also, a Wild Card number is issued and members are then required to capture details later on the website. I therefore recommend the online purchase option as this finalises the transaction in one go. Good news is that the first batch of new Wild Cards has been sent to members.

Kind regards.

Thank you, Joep, for your most helpful reply. We'll go for the online option then.
