Daily conservation Fee

Unread postby safarigal » Sat Nov 27, 2010 3:13 am

What are the alternatives to purchasing a Wild Card? Paying a daily conservation fee? We are "International" tourists (although ex-South Africans) and we trying to work out which would be the cheapest route for us to take.

Safarigal - work out what the conversation and daily entrance fees would cost you - the cost might come in cheaper than the cost of a wild card. We are saffies living in RSA have worked out that for the coming year, that paying the above fees on entrance to parks will not cost us as much as buying a wild card at the new rate.

I agree with Foxy. The longer you stay in the Parks the more appealing a Wild Card becomes. For a stay of less than about 10 days it is cheaper to pay the daily conservation fee.

For an International visitor it's 6 nights to break even point.

I am confused about information :?

I read that the daily conservation fee for an adult is R90 per day. correct?
Secondly I read the bushveld wildcard is R245. which means 4 days in the Kruger with a wildcard alone is already cheaper than daily conservation.

What do I have wrong here? :?

That's the figure I had in mind too... I see I missed the "Valid from 1 September 2009 to 31 October 2010". :wall:
Will ask Melanie to update that page.

At R560 for my SO and me , the " All clusters " card is a bargain for us - at least 20 days per annum at KNP , plus a number of " extra days " at Karoo , Addo , and others , including Cape Nature parks

I agree. It is a bargain, but if we, as foreign visitors, have to pay nearly 4 x as much it is getting a bit steep if you only come once a year on holiday.

Yes , agreed Michel

On the other hand , consider Dr Mabunda's comments on 22nd March regarding restructuring of Conservation fees :

1.1 SANParks changed the Conservation fee structure to take into account that
residents of this country pay taxes and part of that tax is provided to SANParks
as a conservation & roads grant. This allocation from the fiscus covers about
20% of the SANParks operational costs the remaining 80% is funded through
Responsible Tourism activities.

We like to think that at least some of our tax-money is well spent - and that we get something in return for it :hmz:
