We are told that
all human beings
came out of Africa ~
migrating
at different times, to different places
hunting, killing, extinguishing
the grandest of animals
as they moved in, and then moved on.
Those who stayed behind
in Africa
hunted, killed, but did not extinguish.

And so we faraway people
travel back to Africa
to discover the roots
of our creation.
We come into Africa
to discover “all our relations”
~ elephant, lion, rhino
Zulu and Shangaan people.
Reversing the migration,
we discover a sense
of coming home.
