SANParks Week
The inaugural SANParks week took place in 2006 and was aimed at linking the South African national parks system to the global national movement and to also showcase the best of South Africa’s national parks.
SA National Parks Week 2012
South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the official opening of the 2012 South African National Parks Week will be launched on Monday, 10th September 2012 at Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site in Limpopo. Table Mountain National Park (excluding Boulders) is extending SA National Parks week until Saturday 15 September 2012 whilst Tankwa National Park and Bontebok National Park are extending the week to Sunday 16 September 2012.
It is also important to note that the free access will not apply to the following area: Boulders in the Table Mountain and Namaqua National Parks. Free entry will apply to South African day visitors only.

SA National Parks Week 2011
SANParks will officially launch the 2011 SA National Parks Week (SANPW) in the Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park on Monday, 12 September 2011. The week-long celebration of free access to parks by South Africans will run from 12 to 18 September, however it is important to note that the “Free Access” to national parks for South African citizens runs from the 12 to 16 September.
It is also important to note that the free access will not apply to the following area: Boulders in the Table Mountain, Namaqua and Mokala National Parks. Free entry will apply to South African day visitors only.

SA National Parks Week 2010
The week-long campaign giving free access to the national parks will take place from 13-17 September 2010 and will be applicable to all the national parks managed by SANParks, with the exception of Boulders in Table Mountain National Park, Tankwa and Namaqua National Parks. All South Africans - especially educators and school groups are encouraged to diarise these dates and plan a visit to a national park nearby!

SANParks Week 2006
The 2006 theme for this focused week is “Know Your National Parks” and the main objectives of the week are to create awareness; instill a sense of pride in South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage; educate the public on the importance of nature and biodiversity and give the public a broader understanding of the custodianship role played by SANParks in conservation issues.
Essentially, the week kicks off with a series of activities which will be held in various parks throughout the country. You can access the programme here. The public will have free access to all national parks on working days through a programme that will be initiated by the People and Conservation division that will be targeting community and school groups.
