poe6: hawk

i doubletake,
and it’s a flashing 4 x 4 next door,
arrowing inwards aerobically,
parking fast.

the quadbikes irritate,
I suppose I’m just jealous,
but this hum I cannot remove
from my ideal vision
of what yesterday was like.

he swoops in
to borrow a corkscrew
and we discover familiarity,
a shared hometown.

not so bad after all,
I sample his red,
he charms my wife,
the kids swap stickers.

after a weekend of connections,
a friendly wave, and philosophy comes
in the shape of a cloud of dust,
powerful and efficient, his aquiline beak
speaks of another whole dimension,
kwaaking ‘conquest’
to my simple, satisfied, receptive soul.
