Media Release: Commercial pine harvesting in Tokai Plantation, TMNP

Come Monday 26 August 2013, harvesting of the next section of commercial pines in the Tokai plantation will begin. The pines will be harvested by forestry company, Cape Pine (formerly MTO Forestry) per the company’s harvesting schedule. The section, or ‘compartment’ of pines to be harvested is located along upper Tokai Road, opposite the Table Mountain National Park’s (TMNP) Tokai picnic and braai site.

The Buffalo Bay/Goukamma Joint Operations Centre (JOC) prepares to receive 600 kg spoiled food from the Kiana Satu. The food, which is expected to be airlifted from the vessel later today, is no longer fit for human consumption and most of it will be disposed under controlled waste removal procedures.

Kruger National Park warns against false representation

There is phishing email circulating around, from an address with a job application form that has a South African National Parks logo attached. The source/s sending the email urges recipients to apply for a job in the Kruger National Park (KNP), giving them details of where and when in the Park; the field training would take place if one has been selected. Of much concern is that the email states that the successful candidates would need to pay a rental fee of R600 which includes breakfast and supper.

Due to the stranding of the 165m bulk cargo ship (Kiani Satu), west of Goukamma estuary, carrying 330 tons of heavy fuel oil and 15, 000 tons of rice, the Garden Route National Park team had to go on high alert to prevent oil from entering the Swartvlei and Knysna estuaries.

AENP and Nelson Mandela Bay join forces to promote the park

Addo Elephant National Park (AENP) and Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT) have embarked on a joint partnership in promoting day visits to the Park. NMBT is already an official reservation office for all South African National Parks (SANParks) and offers accommodation bookings to all national parks as well as certain SANParks products such as the renowned Otter Trail in the Tsitsikamma National Park.
