SANParks Rhino Champion Alyssa Carter, aged seven, handed over a cheque of R100 000 to the SANParks Honorary Rangers. Last year Alyssa was the winner of the Corporate Contribution to Conservation Award (Individual) at the SANParks Kudu awards. These awards were in recognition of her efforts to raise money to save South Africa’s rhinos.

In November last year the SANParks Honorary Rangers of the Table Mountain Region, in conjunction with TMNP Management and a number of passionate trail runners launched an initiative called "Running for the Mountain." The primary objective was to raise funds through trail running club events for the on-going rehabilitation and maintenance of the Park’s many jeep tacks and trails.

A chemical analysis of the recent red tide incident in Knysna

Recent water samples in the Knysna estuary suggest a bloom in nitrate and phosphate levels were higher than expected for the estuary during summer. Additional samples collected at the Thesen Island Jetty indicate a decrease in the concentration of nutrients during the first collapse of the bloom.

The South African National Parks (SANParks) Board has appointed Mr. Abe Sibiya, the Managing Executive of Kruger National Park (KNP), as the acting Chief Executive Officer from 1 April 2014 as the current Chief Executive Officer’s term of office ends on 31 March 2014. He will have the support and assistance of the Board on all strategic matters as well as help from the Department of Environmental Affairs in terms of rhino management.
