Media Release: KNP Rangers receive R 261 665.00 to lash on poachers
Lasher Tools raised the funds by putting aside a certain amount of money for every one of their “big five tools” i.e. rakes, forks, wheelbarrow, spades and picks sold; which is intended to go to the aid of rhino in the KNP.
Venter in his acceptance speech said “we are honoured to have Lasher Tools coming in on our side to support us during this very difficult time that we are faced with. We need to deal with this poaching scourge as a collective; therefore it is important to have everybody and every company in this country coming up to assist us in whatever way possible.”
The donation will help in purchasing the much needed ranger equipment that the KNP Rangers and other members of the anti poaching unit may need to be able to deal with the poachers out there in the bush.
Lasher is also in a process of donating a specialized greenhouse to Skukuza Nursery. This will be used to propagate the pepper bark tree, a highly sought after species which is endangered within the Park; and is part of an effort to stop poaching of the small remaining population, by making the plant readily available to the community.
The Honorary Rangers, who have branches throughout the country, were instrumental in raising the funds from Lasher and will continue to do so, on behalf of South African National Parks (SANParks).

Looking on is Mr Andre van der Merwe, Vice-Chairperson: Honorary Rangers National Executive Committee (right).
To mark the day, the dignitaries planted the Pepper bark tree, an endangered species with medicinal purposes found in the Park. Dr Freek Venter and Ms Nicole Renney plant the tree while Messrs John Turner and Andre van der Merwe look on.
