Mxit takes up the challenge to support Table Mountain
This challenge has been taken up by Mr Alan Knott-Craig (Jnr), the new owner and CEO of Mxit, one of the voting platforms being used to vote in this international campaign.
“I believe that Africa should have at its southern gateway a New Seven Wonder of Nature. Table Mountain is that gateway. It is in our hands now to make it happen and I call on all South Africans to join us in voting for Table Mountain. For a limited period, it will cost only one moola [one cent] to vote instead of the normal 20 moolas [20 cents],” Knott-Craig said. “Furthermore, one Mxit user will win everyday in these final 3 days of voting, a 100,000 moola prize.”
“All of us at MXit are proud to be associated with this campaign that will benefit the country economically and create jobs,” added Knott-Craig.
In just 2 days, it will be time to reveal Table Mountain’s fate in its battle to be named a New7Wonder of Nature. The results will be announced during a free concert at the V&A Waterfront’s Amphitheatre on Friday 11 November.
The public is invited to celebrate Table Mountain’s success to date and to be the first to hear the results of the final round of the New7Wonders of Nature race.
Festivities will kick off at 7pm and run until 10pm. The announcement will be made during that time, followed by an address from Mayor Patricia de Lille.
Master of Ceremony’s Soli Philander will kick off the proceedings, followed by entertainment from Chad Saaimon and the Black Ties, and Celeste Williams and The Rudimentals.
A research study by Grant Thornton, a leading tourism hospitality and leisure research company has predicted a R1.4billion annual tourism bonanza for South Africa if Table Mountain is named one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. This means an estimated 200,000 additional visitors to South Africa, creating 11,000 new jobs.
