Media Release: Skukuza gets baboon-proof dustbins
“We are sincerely grateful for this donation as it has been a long and difficult struggle to try and keep primates away from the various dustbins in the park, particularly here in Skukuza,” Ms Nhlapo said.
“This donation came at a very good time,” said Ms Nhlapo, “because not only are we busy celebrating SANParks Week, but we have also recently held our annual Keep Kruger Clean Campaign which we also run in conjunction with the Honorary Rangers.”
The Honorary Rangers, which have branches right around the country, raised R186 925 for not only the support but also for 182 brand new recycled plastic bins worth R68 247 which were donated by Nampak Polycyclers.
Baboons and other primates often access the camps in the KNP and raid the dustbins. This action not only spreads litter around the camp, but it also creates problem animals which often have to be shot.
