Research Procedures

The Cape Research Centre (CRC) administers and coordinates research for the Agulhas, Bontebok, Namaqua, Table Mountain, Tanqua Karoo and West Coast National Parks.

The procedure to follow when applying for a research permit for these parks is outlined in the Guideline Document. Research applications are reviewed five times per year. Deadlines for submission of applications to be processed in 2013 are as follows:

  • 10 January 2013
  • 04 March 2013
  • 03 June 2013
  • 09 September 2013
  • 04 November 2013

Researchers can expect to have the process finalised with the research permits issued within 4 - 6 weeks following the relevant submission deadline.

The researchers will be asked to complete and sign a research agreement and indemnity form upon approval of the research application at the Research Committee Meeting. Upon receipt of the signed documents, the Science Liaison Officer will issue the researcher with a research permit. Some researchers might be asked to provide further information and the process might take longer to finalize. Please refer to the Guideline document for further information.
