SANParks Blog

Saturday – 17.09.2011

Hi there,

I am continuing previous blog with Saturday happenings.
On Saturday morning we checked S114 but there were neither Buffalos, nor followers. Then, we came on H3 tarred road via Timfenene road. Our Hyenas were there. All of them on the road! I know by now you had enough of Hyenas’ pictures but I can’t not resist. Just a couple of them…

Approaching Afsaal there was another surprise:

Dogs again - Pack of 3

It's a Girl

Alfa female

We drove off to let other people enjoy them and when we informed a Safari vehicle about the dogs, he told us that he was on his way back to the Afsaal. There were some Cheetahs there. We also turned back, with a little hope to see them, but there is always coffee at Afsaal…  And we were lucky to get both.

In Africa

Further along the H3 there were some interesting things.
First, we came across Ground Hornbills. I put a lot of effort to get clear pictures and avoiding high grass but at the end they walked straight to our car.

Then, Saddle-billed storks lazing next to the road.

And then this family of  Double-Banded Sandgrouse:

Shy Steenbok

Martial Eagle - not at all shy

We have arranged booking for the Saturday night at Skukuza (a weekend away from home). So we spent some resting time at the camp , before heading for Lake Panic in the afternoon.

Happy Family

This beautiful Sunset was followed with diner at Selat Restaurant.

What a day. Just wait for the NEXT……..
