Protected Area Expansion (Slide 28)
The authorities have been reviewing the expansion of conservation areas based on Biodiversity. The map illustrates the areas under consideration.
During 2010, the Department of Environmental Affairs published a strategy called the National Protected Areas Expansion Strategy (NPAES). This strategy maps all these areas for the whole country. This was based on an Ecosystems approach.
The map only illustrates the areas surrounding the Kruger National Park.
