Visitors to the Kruger National Park this Saturday (May 31, 2008) will strike gold when they enter the park through any one of the 10 entrance gates.
Ms Lucy Nhlapo and Mr William
Mabasa share a few of the gold
chocolate coins with SA Mint
General Manager Natanya
van Niekerk.
They will not get real gold, however, but rather chocolate filled coins, which will be distributed at the gates to celebrate the 110th Birthday of the KNP.
“We will be handing out these chocolate coins as a symbol of our new partnership that we have forged between the Kruger National Park and the SA Mint as this iconic company is one of our partners in the KNP: 110 Conservation Celebration this year,” said the KNP’s HOD Tourism and Marketing, Ms Lucy Nhlapo.
“The synergy between our Krugerrand gold coin and the Kruger National Park is obvious and we are really proud that two of South Africa’s greatest icons, gold and the KNP, can join together in this way,” said Ms Natanya van Niekerk from the SA Mint.
This event forms part of the KNP’s 110th Conservation Celebration three-week long event which started on Monday May 26, 2008 and will culminate with the main event in Skukuza on Saturday June 14, 2008.
