Media Release: Alldays High school benefits from SANParks' CSI
South African National Parks (SANParks) Managing Executive: Corporate Services, Ms wanda mkutshulwa yesterday (27 March 2014) handed a computer laboratory to Alldays High School in the Alldays community, adjacent to Mapungubwe National Park & World Heritage Site.
This initiative is part of SANParks' Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives which aim to support the communities that stay adjacent to the park by providing them with infrastructure and related resources in areas of education, health and other identified needs.
This state-of-the-art computer lab will be able to accommodate 21 learners. Furthermore, in line with the organisation’s vision of ‘connecting to society’, this laboratory will be accessible by community members and the learners from the primary school in the area.
“This high school averages a 70% matric pass rate and we hope this new laboratory will take that to 100% as it will allow learners to research more on their subjects. This is another way of connecting to society and we are pleased each time we deliver a project like this to the communities where national parks are situated.” said Ms mkutshulwa.
The MEC of Education in the Province, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi received the facility on behalf of the school and said “We are excited to be the recipients of this laboratory; and pledge to take good care of it. We further promise SANParks that as a Department responsible for Education in the Province, we will work together with the educators and learners to ensure that the facility maximises the possibilities of getting excellent matric results”.
SANParks charges 1% Community Levy on all reservations for accommodation and activities in order to fund projects that support the surrounding communities. During the month of April, SANParks will hand over a science laboratory to a High School in QwaQwa, in the Eastern Free State where Golden Gate Highlands National Park is situated.
SANParks' Managing Executive, Ms wanda mkutshulwa addresses the audience during the launch of the laboratory.
