Media Release: SANParks scoops two awards at Crime Line's Gala Event
Date: 23rd August 2013
South African National Parks (SANParks) shone at the 6th Anniversary Gala Event of Crime Line last night, 22 August 2013 held in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SANParks, Dr. David Mabunda received the Rookie Award for the Rhino Alive Campaign. This was in recognition of SANParks’ vision to mobilise whistle blowers towards protecting the rhino.
The second award, The Star Award was presented to SANParks in recognition of making a difference in the fight against rhino poaching in partnership with Crime Line through the Rhino Alive Campaign. This is the first time that SANParks has been openly lauded for its hard work in fighting rhino poaching.
Upon receipt of the Rookie Award, Dr. Mabunda said that the people of South Africa and the world should know that we are not only fighting crime against rhino in the Kruger National Park… “but a counter insurgency war where foreign individuals come into the park armed to the teeth with weapons of war - AK47s, rocket launchers and hand grenades, just to name a few”.
Let us continue to support this war against South Africa’s cultural heritage animal by reporting incidents of poaching to the anonymous tip-off lines 0800 205 005, 08600 10111 or Crime-Line on 32211.
