Back to all news
Date: 6th September 2011
Bontebok National Park (BNP) is opening its doors for Heritage Month during the South African National Parks (SANParks) Week, taking place from 12 to 16 September. During this week, all National Parks are offering free, open access to all – to celebrate the rich and diverse heritage that is often just on our doorstep.
The theme this year for SANParks Week is “Know your National Parks” and Bontebok National Park is inviting all South Africans to join in the various fun activities planned for the week.
Guided walks will be offered to groups visiting the park during these dates – these walks will provide interesting information about cultural heritage sites within the park, or simply some good exercise for nature-lovers. These activities have to be booked prior to the group’s arrival. Visitors can also join in the Park’s Soccer Tournament taking place on 17 September.
First National Bank (FNB) has sponsored SANParks for the week’s activities and each of the 19 national parks have developed unique plans for celebrating the week, including career guidance exhibitions; hiking trails; photography competitions; exhibitions on various activities around the parks; game drives; evening boma braais; story telling sessions; sports activities, give-aways, pensioners day, and wild walks for school children.
In the final celebration of Heritage Month, Bontebok National Park is inviting all locals and visitors to take part in a Potjiekos Competition taking place on National Heritage Day, 24 September.
