Media Release: Three suspected poachers die

A joint operational team consisting of Kruger National Park (KNP) Rangers and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) came into contact with three suspected poachers yesterday afternoon, 18 May 2011. A shoot-out ensued which led to all suspects being fatally wounded.
An AK 47 firearm with ammunition, 458 hunting rifle and axes were recovered at the scene of the incident.
Since the beginning of January 2011 159 rhinos have been poached throughout the country, 99 suspects arrested and 17 suspects fatally wounded.
